Come play the forest school way at Forest Friends. WHAT: Come Play the Forest School Way This program follows the Forest school ethos in that: •This is a long term program which takes place regularly and frequently rather than as one off events. We meet at the same woodland location across seasons throughout the year. Over time, children are able to become familiar with the environment and develop a connection with the land. •This program promotes the holistic development of participants to foster resilient, confident, independent, and creative learners. With a focus on child-led free play and learning in the natural environment, the children develop a connection to the land, wildlife, and each other, as well as come to know themselves better. We practice play-based and inquiry-based learning in which we observe, document and plan according to the children’s interests and developmental needs. •This program provides the opportunity for participants to take supported risks to encourage curiosity, exploration, and a deep appreciation of nature through child-led free play in the great outdoors. The natural environment provides opportunities that challenge, develop persistence and resilience, and offer the chance to make thoughtful decisions about safety and risk. We view children as competent, capable and curious learners and hope to create a setting where we all learn together; sharing both knowledge and experience equally. Children will be free to play and explore at their own pace. Daily flow will include open circle/snack time > woodland games > free play > circle time/story time. WHO: Children ages 0-11 with their parent or caregiver WHEN: 8 weekly sessions each season - Saturdays 11:00am – 1:00pm WHERE: Longleaf Pine Forest HOW MUCH: Monthly contributions start at $6 per family. Our aim is to provide children with nature immersion experiences and reconnect children and their families to the natural world.
