VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — Acknowledging the difficulty in teaching and working at its schools during the coronavirus pandemic, the Vestvaia Hills Board of Education approved a one-time $400 bonus payment for all teachers and staff. The measure comes during "Thank Alabama Teachers Week," which Gov. Kay Ivey proclaimed to express appreciation for public education faculty, support staff, and school administrators. Board members in the meeting affirmed the extraordinary work done by VHCS faculty and staff throughout 2020 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. In a message to employees, Board of Education president Lisa Baker, Ph.D., said she and the Board members were "grateful for your perseverance through the challenges 2020 has brought us." Baker added, "You showed up and stepped up; and without you, the school year would not have been possible." VHCS employees will receive their supplemental payments in December.
