WESTFIELD, NJ — In celebration of Black History Month, Westfield is hosting some educational community events in the month of February.
The Westfield Community Center and Westfield Neighborhood Council will hold an event on Friday, Feb. 25 at the Shady Rest Golf and Country Club — the first Black-owned and African American golf and country club in the United States.
The event will include dinner, speakers, tributes and live entertainment with Valarie Adams & The Dimensions Band. Tickets can be purchased through the Community Center or Neighborhood Council here.
General admission is $25.
Additionally, the Westfield Memorial Library, in collaboration with the Friends of the Library, will host The African American History Project on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.
Presented by the Martin Luther King Association of Westfield, the program will reflect on the influence and significance of African Americans in Westfield, including slavery, the Black Professional Zone, Civic Associations, and the African American residential community in Brightwood Park.
