VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — Vestavia Hills police warn of some potential scammers who have been selling pine straw within the city limits recently. Police say the accused scammers are four African American men in a red Dodge truck with a Virginia license tag, pulling a trailer with a Georgia license tag. "After they throw the straw, the four men go to the door of the residence, reportedly in an intimidating manner, and inform the owner that they threw 500 bales and that they are owed $2,000+," Vestavia police said in a statement over the weekend. "In each case, 500 bales of straw is grossly excessive for the yard." Police said they have received multiple calls about this happening in the area, but have not been able to locate the vehicle or men.
