N Durango Drive near GRAND MONTECITO, Las Vegas NV
Description
On January 11, 2022, The Planning Commission approved a variance to allow an out of state developer, Centennial Hills Mob Owners, LLC, located in Florida, to build a 4-story 264 Unit Apartment Complex at the northwest corner of N. Durango & Grand Montecito. Homeowners in the Northwest are upset because our Master Plan for this land was never intended to be used for this type of high density development. It is zoned commercial. The issues we have are... there is plenty of land in the NW zoned for apartments. We already have 4 apartment complexes just in the 89149 zip code that have plenty of vacancies and more will be coming, but at least it doesn't require a variance to the Master Plan. They need to keep apartments in the areas they are zoned. Why do we have a Master Plan if the Planning Commission doesn't respect the work that has gone into creating one. They also don't have enough parking spaces and for this 264 unit complex and received a variance for that! Nobody takes the bus in the Northwest like they do in Seattle. This is happening at the same time the LV Valley Water District is running heavy commercials telling us not to water because Lake Mead's water supply is running low! It is very hypocritical. The Planning Commission wants to cram in more apartments just so they can accommodate more people, but at the cost of our quality of life. They are also doing this to increase the taxes/licensing revenue. They have no concern for water use and neither does the owner of the Centennial Hills Apartments. The Planning Commissions message is not in line with the Las Vegas Valley Water District. They want to cram in more high-density housing where it doesn't belong and exacerbate our water problems. Why should we save water when The Planning Commission doesn't even consider depleting water an issue? We live here and the out-of-state-developer. Our water is precious!! The other problem they haven't addressed is that Centennial Hills High School is already at 110% capacity. We already have the worse graduation rates and this will only deepen. The final meeting is before the City Council in February. Starvos Anthony ) in Ward 4 will be voting on this along with Carolyn Goodman. Please help us shut down this project by calling them and attending the meeting. Thank you for reading!
