RYE, NY — Playland Park in Rye will not open for the 2020 season. Details will be coming during a 2 p.m. news conference Tuesday by Westchester County Executive George Latimer.
Latimer mentioned the plan to shutter Playland in a personal social media post Monday.
"I made the tough but necessary decision, to be formally announced tomorrow: Playland Amusement Park will remain closed for the season," he said on Facebook.
Latimer also said that the county will be announcing a voluntary buyout to help reduce payroll so the county's budget can be balanced.
Employees will get a full outline of the program, he said, for which the deadline is July 31.
Latimer said the county is working on another $40 million in adjustments to narrow the budget gap in addition to the $20 million in actions already taken. There will be more news about that Wednesday.
