RYE, NY — The burning of a pride rainbow flag in Rye was condemned as an act of hatred. The Westchester County Human Rights Commission and the Westchester County LGBTQ+ Advisory Board said they joined the Rye City Human Rights Commission and pRYEde Community Group said it was an "act of hatred committed by a perpetrator who cowardly burned a pride rainbow flag on a homeowner's private property." The incident happened over the weekend. In a Facebook post, the county human rights commission said it was the second time recently where private property was burned based on hate. Earlier in the month, a Black Lives Matter banner was set on fire at the Quaker Meeting House in Chappaqua. "Hate has no place in Westchester County," the commission said, calling on everyone in the community to speak out against all forms of hatred, bigotry and intolerance.
