Safety Improvements Coming To Mitt Lary Rd/Hwy 43 Intersection

NORTHPORT, AL. — The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) on Wednesday announced plans to add safety improvements at a busy intersection in Northport. ALDOT said plans call for installing a separator curb with vertical delineators, along with new traffic striping and widening of the northbound shoulder just south of U.S. Highway 43 at the Mitt Lary Road intersection. The separator curb is approximately 250 feet in length, according to ALDOT, and will prevent motorists from making illegal turns. The agency then pointed to similar safety measures implemented in 2019 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 82 and U.S. Highway 69. Work on the project will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to better accommodate traffic, but ALDOT says motorists should expect delays and use caution while driving through the work zone.
