Reform Area Schools Close Until Nov. 30 After Rise In Virus Cases

REFORM, AL. — The Pickens County Schools Superintendent Jamie Chapman on Sunday announced that the district would close its two school in Reform, due to a rise in coronavirus cases and exposure among support staff at Reform Elementary and Pickens County High School. According to the announcement, the two schools transitioned immediately to virtual learning beginning on Monday, which will last until Nov. 30. Chapman said while students K-8th grade will return on Nov. 30, high school students will come back on a staggered schedule beginning the same day. According to the Alabama Department of Public Health K-12 COVID-19 dashboard, the Pickens County School District, which has roughly 2,450 students, had reported "less than five" new cases as of Monday. Bamatracker.com, an independent online data aggregator used statewide by local communities, reported 12 new COVID-19 cases confirmed for Pickens County as of Monday, bringing the county's cumulative total to 1,008.
