OCEANSIDE, NY — Bianca Jimenez, of Rockaway Beach, Queens, is only 19 years old, but struggled with a coronavirus infection that led to her being hospitalized for four days. On Friday, she became the 60oth COVID-19 patient to be discharged from Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside.
Jimenez is an accounting major at Manhattan Community College who had a feeling her symptoms were due to coronavirus, according to a news release from the hospital. She had a dry cough, loss of sense of taste and smell, dizziness, trouble breathing and a 104-degree fever. Her pediatrician prescribed an inhaler but her breathing problems continued. Jimenez visited an urgent care center where she learned she had double pneumonia and COVID-19.
"I was really scared," she said. "But I thought I'm young and healthy. I'll get through this."
For four days she was treated at Mount Sinai South Nassau with antibiotics, oxygen and breathing therapies.
"I'm very excited to get home, and so glad I got through this," she said.
