The Black Artist Collective (BAC) will host a screening of The Wiz on Sunday, February 20, 2022 as part of a month-long calendar of celebratory Black History Month events!! The iconic film will screen in the Westcott Theatre. PLEASE NOTE: This listing is for TICKETS FOR 1:00 p.m. screening. The Wiz, an adaptation of the groundbreaking Broadway musical — itself a retelling of L. Frank Baum's classic 1900 children's fantasy "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, '' is firmly rooted in and celebrates Black culture. The iconic cast, including Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Lena Horne, Nipsey Russell, Mabel King, and Richard Pryor; coupled with the weaving together of gospel, blues, soul, and R&B with narratives of the Black experience, has made this film a must-watch rite of passage for many in the Black community. This event is FREE and Open to the public. Following current county and city-wide mandates, mask-wearing is required for admittance to the film and must be worn throughout the program. — The Black Artist Collective, is a Syracuse-based organization that endeavors to play an essential role in the lives of emerging and established Black and Brown artists by cultivating networks and amplifying the talents of its richly diverse membership.
