Description
After two years, the Northshore Concert Band returns to Pick-Staiger Concert Hall for the first concert of its 2021-2022 season. Mallory Thompson conductor Northshore Concert Band marks a celebratory return to the stage at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall with Coming Home — a program of works highlighting the distinguished legacy of the band, welcoming musicians and audience members alike back to the concert hall. We open with Frank Ticheli’s Nitro, an energy-charged fanfare commissioned by NCB in celebration of the band’s 50th season in 2006. The sprightly fanfare is followed by two works celebrating the band’s connection to Northwestern University. Dedicated to the memory of John P. Paynter, Mark Camphouse’s Whatsoever Things takes inspiration from Northwestern University’s motto and weaves Franz Joseph Haydn’s famous St. Anthony Chorale, Northwestern University’s alma mater hymn, throughout three contrasting sections. Serene and reflective, Be Ever the Hope, written by NU alumnus Jay Kennedy and dedicated to Mallory Thompson, receives its world premiere performance. The crowd-pleasing final movement from David Maslanka’s Symphony No. 2 brings the program to a rousing conclusion.
