Description

Come see USGA CEO Mike Whan speak, while raising money for female student athlete scholarship. The “Our Turn to Play” Scholarship Dinner, in its 17th year of existence, has become a signature campus and community event, with attendance exceeding more than 450 participants. The OTTP Dinner allows our community to gather and celebrate the achievements of women in both athletics and life, and to raise scholarship funds for our UNC Asheville female student-athletes. Last year’s event raised over $85,000 in scholarship funds, directly impacting and supporting UNCA student-athletes! To make it all the more special, this year we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Title IX, which prohibited sex-based discrimination in any school or other education program funded by the government, ultimately providing women the opportunity to compete in athletics at the collegiate level in the same way that men did. This year, our keynote guest speaker will be Michael (Mike) Whan, USGA CEO and former commissioner of the LPGA, one of the longest-running and most successful women’s sports organizations in the world. Currently, Whan leads the USGA team and their initiative to champion and advance the game of golf by organizing global championships, delivering golfer engagement programs, broadening accessibility, and driving sustainability. Previously as commissioner of the LGPA, Whan focused on making the game more accessible for girls, increasing the number of tournaments, purses, and television coverage, and oversaw the overall expansion of the association. For years, Mike has been at the forefront of the growth in coverage, funding, and support around women’s sports, specifically women’s golf. I hope you are able to attend this event and invite others to join us! Sponsorship opportunities are also available. If interested contact [email protected]
