The Lenape Center will be conducting a living land acknowledgment workshop with Hunter students, staff, and faculty. LIVING LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT WORKSHOP Presented by the LENAPE CENTER March 23, 2021 7-9pm Flex Space, 205 Hudson Street Registration required Land Acknowledgment as practice is found globally and particularly in nations such as New Zealand, Australia and Canada. Lenape Center, indigenous to Lenapehoking, which includes New York City, has introduced Living Land Acknowledgment. As a means of evolving Land Acknowledgment, Living Land Acknowledgment aligns Lenape values with the acknowledgment process to create a sustainable model. Often perceived to be a part of “decolonization” and “indigeneity” the foundation of Land Acknowledgment is ancient in origin. Living Land Acknowledgment offers the ability for non- indigenous peoples, the implementation of a foundational dynamic of indigenous cultures, that of asserting the interconnectivity and oneness of original people and place, for the purpose of justice, equity, respect and collective healing. Lenape Center, for the last ten years, has been pushing back against the profound effects of the void and erasure of the Lenape in Lenapehoking, the result of colonization. In every sense, as an organization, all of our work embodies the purpose of Land Acknowledgment. Lenape Center sees its responsibility towards place, homeland, territory, as an extension of responsibility towards Mother Earth, and the continuation of people and place. Lenape Center Living Land Acknowledgment is the result of the commitment set forth by Lenape culture bearers of previous generations, as the late Nora Thompson Dean, who upon arriving to her original homeland stated that she could see and sense her ancestors. Lenape Center offers a dynamic and creative workshop on Living Land Acknowledgment. The comprehensive workshop will inform on the following: • Lenape history • Lenape culture • Colonization • Lenape protocol for Living Land Acknowledgment • Understanding equity, true inclusivity and continuation • Applying sustainable multi-generational commitment to Land Acknowledgment • Land Acknowledgement options • The Living Land Acknowledgment creation All attendees must register in advance and show proof of vaccination.
