What Is Land For? According to Wendell Berry, it “all turns on affection.” "Stickers…are motivated by affection, by such love for a place and its life that they want to preserve it and remain in it. " -From Wendell Berry's Jefferson Lecture for the National Endowment for the Humanities, 2012. We’ve asked Tim and Katherine Clymer to join us because they are “stickers.” They have turned their affection for Pennsylvania soil into a small farm that seeks to “grow deeply, serve joyfully, and teach with humility.” They are a young family of six (plus a lot of animals!) who opened a u-pick orchard and plant nursery in Mechanicsburg in 2017. By his own admission, Tim is a tree nerd: Since 2010 we've grown just about any fruit you can name: figs, pawpaw, cherries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, medlar, che, goumi, jujube, persimmons, pomegranate, hardy kiwi, and quince all have found their space in the orchard at one point or another. Katherine says, I am equally as passionate about farming! When Tim and I were first married, I convinced him to help me build a small raised bed garden against our suburban home. Now many years and thirteen acres later, my "garden" is just a little bigger! I still maintain the claim that I am responsible for getting him into gardening :-). My passions also lie with my milk goats! Their affection for the land is obvious and probably very contagious. They are rooted in a modest, yet profound, faith that a quiet life of handiwork can be a perfectly good way to serve God and people. Come hear their story, and ask them questions. Bring a friend.
