BELLPORT, NY — The Lighthouse Mission, which serves impoverished people across Brookhaven Town, just received a massive donation — $31,000 in winter coats and food — from Ocean State Job Lot. The company, a privately-held discount retail chain with 147 stores throughout the northeast,delivered 500 coats donated by customers, and over 25,000 pounds of food, including four pallets of food, as well as 10 Food4Vets pallets with one week's worth of meals in each parcel, through its "Buy-Give-Get" program. Bellport's Lighthouse Mission recently received $31,000 in winter coats and food to help residents across Brookhaven Town. / Regan Communications Group The Lighthouse Mission has the largest mobile food pantry in New York, serving residents in Shirley, Bellport, Patchogue, Coram, Ronkonkoma, Rocky Point, Port Jefferson Station, Central Islip, Centereach, and Riverhead. Its goal is "to feed the hungry and help the homeless by sharing God's love with people in need in practical ways," according to the non-profit's website. "Our commitment is to feed the poor, but our goal is to empower people to overcome poverty and live purpose-filled lives," the mission statement concluded. The faith-based organization offers community-based outreach programs, clothing and food drives, as well as religious education, and programs for at-risk teens and children living in homeless shelters and disadvantaged communities, according to a news release. Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation executive director David Sarlitto said Lighthouse Mission company is "proud to support the Lighthouse Mission and its goal to bring hope and provide relief to families in need across Long Island." "We hope this donation will provide nourishment and warmth during this critical time of need for so many," he said.
