BROOKFIELD, WI — A Wauwatosa man has been charged in connection with the death of a Brookfield man who overdosed on fentanyl in 2021. Police said Colin Hogan, 23, sold drugs to the man who died. Hogan was charged Thursday in Waukesha County Court with first-degree homicide/deliver drugs and bail jumping, both felony counts, according to online court records. If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in prison. Hogan's cash bond was set at $50,000; his next court date is Feb. 10. According to the criminal complaint, police responded on July 24, 2021, to a home near Bluemound and Brookfield Roads for a call about a man without a pulse. The man was pronounced dead, and an autopsy later found his cause of death to be fentanyl intoxication, the complaint said. Police said the woman who called 911 appeared to be intoxicated when officers arrived. She told police that she and the man had smoked marijuana, then the man had left for about an hour — to buy painkillers, according to the complaint. Police searched the home and found marijuana and prescription bottles in the woman's name in a backpack, the complaint said. The woman later said she had hidden the drugs before calling for help and admitted to giving the man money to buy "Percocet 30s" for tooth pain, the complaint said. After the woman told officers where the man had gone to buy the pills, police searched her phone and found a Lyft ride to a Milwaukee address, according to the complaint. The search also turned up a text exchange with a person known as "Big C." According to the complaint, police linked both the phone number and address to Hogan, and officers arrested him Tuesday while executing a search warrant at the address. Hogan at first told police that he didn't remember selling the drugs, but later mentioned the man's tooth pain, the complaint said.
