Wrentham Fire Department Receives Nearly $10K In State Grants

WRENTHAM, MA — The Wrentham Fire Department will use nearly $10,000 in grants from the Executive Office of Public Safety and the Department of Fire Services to purchase turnout gear and an equipment washer/extractor. The grants are designed to provide state fire departments will equipment that will reduce exposure to cancer-causing toxins associated with firefighting. Wrentham Town Administrator Kevin Sweet announced the $3,108 turnout gear grant and $6,416.72 washer-extractor equipment grant last week. Sweet said Wrentham FD will use the funding to purchase 28 hoods and sets of gloves as well as a washer-extractor for gear cleaning. "Our firefighters face risks every day in their service to the community, and exposure to cancer-causing chemicals is one of the significant risks that many departments have been working to combat in recent years," Sweet said. "New protective gear and the proper equipment to effectively wash gear will greatly benefit the health of Wrentham's firefighters." Funding for this grant program was made available through the Baker-Polito administration for fire departments across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
