THE CLOSET A faith-based volunteer-driven organization impacting lives through its nonprofit thrift shop 845 Station Street/PO Box 42                 Herndon, VA  20172-0042                    703.437.7652                                                                                             [email protected]            Retail Thrift Store Manager The Store Manager is responsible for general oversight of the day-to-day operation of The Closet Thrift Shop, an entity of The Closet of the Greater Herndon Area, Inc., a nonprofit organization incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia in order: To give families the opportunity to buy previously owned clothing, household articles, and other items at affordable prices. To utilize the profits for grants to local charities and post-secondary scholarships that will directly or indirectly benefit low income families in the greater Herndon area.To provide clothing, and other appropriate items at the discretion of the Store Manager, at no charge to persons referred by a social service agency or school. To encourage community involvement. The Store Manager directs retail store operations, monitoring all aspects, including promoting good customer relations, good volunteer relations, and adherence to the philosophy and mission of the organization. The candidate should be skilled at using various marketing tools, including electronic databases, social media, e-mail, written communications of various types, and outreach events. The Store Manager should be outgoing and communicate effectively with a variety of people. Physical Demands Physical ability to move merchandise and interact with customers and volunteers. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a salaried position. While 40 hours/5 days per week should be sufficient time to perform the duties of Store Manager, the expectation is the Store Manager will put in the hours necessary to perform the duties of the job. May have to schedule an occasional Sunday workday when the store is closed.
