Description
WRENTHAM, MA — Wrentham police are urging residents to be wary of any phone solicitations after receiving reports that people purporting to be calling on behalf of police charities are contacting people and asking them for money.
Wrentham Police Chief Bill McGrath said residents should not agree to give out financial information, or agree to leave a donation in a mailbox, to anyone who contacts them via phone call. He said anyone wishing to donate to Wrentham police charitable fundraising should do so in person at the station and Wrentham PD will make sure it gets to the proper hands.
"Whatever they call it, we say 'DO NOT DO IT.'" McGrath posted on the department's Facebook page. "DO NOT agree to make any payment of any kind over the phone. DO NOT leave cash, a check or any payment in your mailbox. ASSUME they're all scammers, all frauds, all thieves whether it's for a police charity or ANYTHING ELSE!"
