NEW JERSEY — Living in the Garden State has its own advantages. One of them being safety. A new study conducted by CCTV Camera World, ranked the safest cities in America and six are in New Jersey, tied for fifth-most in any state. According to the study, New Hanover in Burlington County was ranked the seventh safest city in the country, with just 38.17 crimes per 100,000 residents. The national crime rate is 2,356.7 crimes per 100,000 Americans. The other towns that made the list were Matawan, Haworth, Sparta Township, Northvale, and Park Ridge. Here's their ranking and crime rate (per 100,000 residents): No. 7: New Hanover, 38.17 No. 27: Matawan, 69.66No. 41: Haworth, 88.47No. 66: Sparta Township, 119.13No.67: Northvale, 121.09No.95: Park Ridge, 149.63. Wayland, Massachusetts is the No. 1 safest city in America and New York state has 10 of the 25 safest cities in the country. Methodology: To come up with the ranking, the company analyzed the most recent FBI data on crime rates. The rankings were based on the total crime rate in 7,000 cities across the country, the company said. Data for the most recent year 2020 is available here. The total crime rate includes violent crimes, like murder and assault, as well as property crimes like burglary, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Property crimes decreased for the 18th consecutive year in 2020. According to the study, the property crime rate decreased in 2020 as many people were at home during the pandemic, "though this is a continuation of a downward trajectory for property crimes."
