Husky Barber Shop Closes After 50-Year Run In Trussville

TRUSSVILLE, AL — After its founding in 1969, it took decades for the Husky Barber Shop to attain its status as an institution of the Trussville business community. But in the span of just a few weeks, the shop has gone from "closed until further notice" to simply "closed." In an announcement on the shop's website, owner Lacy Wright wrote that "The Husky Barber Shop will be retiring this month, that's right, it will be closing." Addressing his customers in Trussville, Wright wrote, "I do want to say, 'Thank You, Thank You' for your friendship and loyalty all these many years." According to the shop's Facebook page, on March 19 — one day after Alabama issued its first statewide ban on certain public gatherings in response to coronavirus — Wright announced that the shop would be closed until further notice. In an interview with the Trussville Tribune, Wright, 75, explained that he was planning his exit strategy from the barber business even before the coronavirus outbreak hit. "It's sad that the business will be retiring with me," Wright said. "I've had it on the market for a year and a half with several interested purchasers, but the sales process has been completely crippled by the pandemic."
