Here are the top 3 stories in Des Moines today: On Friday, USA Swimming announced that the 2022 TYR Pro Swim Series Des Moines was canceled. The event, originally scheduled for March, was canceled after the 2022 FINA World Championships were postponed due to COVID concerns. (Local 5 - weareiowa.com) The American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa is pushing schools that have dropped their mask mandates to reinstate them immediately. If schools don't comply, they could potentially face lawsuits to get them to comply with federal law. On Friday, the ACLU announced that it sent letters to eight of ten school districts involved in a federal lawsuit against the state's ban on mask mandates. (Des Moines Register) An Iowa lawmaker is pushing for a bill that would require cameras in all Iowa classrooms. Republican state Rep. Norlin Mommsen authored the bill, and he says that it continues the parental involvement due to COVID. The bill would require schools to pay for the new cameras.
