CHATHAM, NJ — An increase in bear activity is being reported in Chatham Township prompting police to warn residents. The increase is specifically in the Fairmount and Meyersville areas, said police. On Tuesday, Feb. 1, a black bear was spotted in the area of Birch Hill and Sunset Drive. That bear was reportedly non-aggressive, said police. As a result, Chatham Police shared a video from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection that offers some tips on what to do if you encounter a black bear.
