Description

PHILADELPHIA — Thousands of blank coronavirus vaccination cards have been stolen from an eastern Pennsylvania medical facility, police said. Action News first reported that 5,000 blank cards were taken from Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Additionally, an unknown number of N95 masks were taken. Police said that masks and cards were in a storage room at the facility, and that all hospital staff members have access to the storage room. The sale of fake vaccination cards has reportedly been on the rise in the past year. Buying, selling, and using fake cards is a federal crime, the FBI has warned. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol says they've seized some 30,000 counterfeit coronavirus vaccination cards in nearly 1,200 separate raids since the start of the pandemic. The Baltimore Field Office, which includes Philadelphia, has seized 1,520 fake cards in 41 incidents. Patch has reached out to Philadelphia Police for more information and will update the story when additional details are made available.
