MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh, one of the more prominent candidates in the Democratic primary for the open U.S. Senate seat this fall, announced Friday that she was suspending her campaign. Arkoosh's campaign released a statement and accompanying YouTube video announcing the suspension. The full video can be seen here. Her withdrawal leaves Lt. Gov. John Fetterman and State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta as the large favorites in the race. Arkoosh, a medical doctor who has said her experience as a physician made her qualified as a leader in the federal government, especially during the time of a global pandemic, said that the "stakes are just too high" in the U.S. Senate race, and that she believes the best way to help ensure a Democrat gets elected to the position "is to suspend my campaign today and commit to doing whatever I can to help ensure we flip this Senate seat in November. "My name may not be on the ballot, but make no mistake, I will still be fighting every day to help win this election," Arkoosh said in a statement. "There's too much at stake. I said from the beginning we would build a campaign about Pennsylvanians and for Pennsylvanians, and I will keep fighting for Pennsylvanians each and every day." Arkoosh thanked her supporters, saying she enjoyed meeting with supporters across the commonwealth, everyone from individual workers and families to small business owners.
