GRIFFIN, GA — A Georgia sheriff's deputy was arrested on accusations that he sent obscene images to a child via social media, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations reports.
Former Spalding County Sheriff's Deputy Mason Keith Lumpkin was charged on Tuesday with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and of electronically furnishing obscene materials to a minor.
Investigators say the 26-year-old Lumpkin, of Griffin, used Snapchat to send lewd electronic pictures and messages to a 16-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl. Both girls saw the images, authorities said.
One of the girls told her parents about the messages and reported Lumpkin to the Spalding Sheriff's Office, investigators said. The GBI was asked to investigate and Lumpkin was placed on administrative leave.
After the GBI completed the investigation, Lumpkin was arrested on Tuesday and immediately fired from his job. He was later booked into the Spalding County Jail.
The GBI asks anyone with information about the investigation to contact the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 2 Field Office at (706) 565-7888.
