BUCKHEAD, GA — The YMCA in Buckhead announced its reopening is set for Friday. The Carl E. Sanders location will open its doors since closing in mid March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Members can expect limited operations and new precautions. According to the website, masks will be required in all common areas where other members are present and when walking to and from workout areas. They don't have to stay on during the workout, but it's encouraged to limit the spread of germs. Also, a health pre-screening is required before entering the building. One will have to be completed for each visit. Water fountains remain closed, so members should bring a water bottle. The location will be closed 1-3 p.m. Monday through Friday for cleaning. The YMCA of Metro Atlanta plans to incrementally reopen 19 of its 24 facilities across the region with limited operations and new coronavirus precautions. Social distancing will be required and enforced by trained staff. Exercise equipment will also be positioned to provide the six-foot distance between people recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first group of reopenings includes locations in Buckhead, East Lake, Kennesaw, Marietta, Peachtree Corners, Newnan and Covington. Only the gym area will be open from May 15 to May 18 for individual exercise. On May 18, lap swim, group exercise and select tennis facilities will be open, but only available for use with an online reservation.
