MONROE COUNTY, NY — Two people died Sept. 4 when police said a tractor-trailer driver made a U-turn across the New York State Thruway.
Thursday, New York State police announced the arrest of Quentin Campbell of New Jersey. He was charged with two counts of Manslaughter 2nd Degree and with Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Collision.
The tractor-trailer driver started a U-turn across the westbound lanes near Exit 47 at 4:15 a.m. and was struck by a driver also traveling west, New York State Police said. The car ended up under the truck; the driver and passenger died.
Police began hunting for the truck that day, describing it as a yellow Volvo truck with a sleeper cab and driver-side damage and asking anyone with information to call. They knew the driver finished the u-turn, headed east, left the Thruway at exit 46, and then pulled into the parking lot of the Doubletree Hotel at the intersection of Jefferson Road and East Henrietta Road, before driving off.
After being extradited from New Jersey, Campbell was arraigned in the town of Wheatland Court and sent to the Monroe County Jail with no bail. Campbell will return to court on Oct. 21.
