PINSON, AL — Mountain Brook is just one win away from playing for a state championship, as the Spartans take on Pinson Valley Friday night in the Class 6A semifinals. Mountain Brook has not played in a state championship game in football since 1997, and has not won a football state title since 1976. Pinson Valley knocked off top-ranked Oxford last week, while Mountain Brook defeated Clay-Chalkville in quarterfinal action. In Mountain Brook's 21-10 victory over Clay-Chalkville, senior signal-caller Strother Gibbs rushed for more than 100 yards, while running back Michael Brogan added another 77 yards, bringing him to more than 1,000 yards on the season.
