WORCESTER, MA — Local residents will be able to take advantage of free coronavirus testing in Worcester this week ahead of Christmas with pop-up testing available on Monday and Tuesday at the Mercantile Center. However, Worcester health officials are hoping local residents keep Christmas celebrations small and only with people from a single household. On Friday, officials said the number of new daily cases per 100,000 people doubled in the two weeks after Thanksgiving, rising from 92 per day the week of Nov. 20 to 181 per day the week of Dec. 11. This week's coronavirus testing events at the Mercantile Center, 201 Commercial St., will take place: Monday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. There's also a drive-up testing site at Quinsigamond Community College, 670 West Boylston St., on Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m.), and Wednesday 8 a.m. to noon.
