The field is incredibly strong and features 12 players ranked in the world's top 20. The women's draw is headed by world #1 and 4-time world champion Nour El Sherbini. She is joined in the field by five other members of the world's top 10 in Joelle King (world #6), Salma Hany (world #7), Rowan Elaraby (world #9) and Nour El Tayeb (provisional world #9). In addition the 2021 Squash On Fire Open Champion, Nele Gilis (world #14), returns to DC to defend her title. Gilis is joined in the lineup by her sister Tinne (world #23) and Squash On Fire's newest team member Ineta Mackevica (world #43). All three players are coached by Squash On Fire's own Ronny Vlassaks. Finally Olivia Fiechter (world #11) and Sabrina Sohby (world #26) will be flying the flag for the United States as they attempt to improve on their 2021 Squash On Fire Open semifinal showings. On the men's side current world #3 and former world champion Mohammed El Shorbagy leads the way. He will be challenged by world #8 Joel Makin who returns to DC having been part of the Welsh team that finished in 3rd place at the 2019 Men's World Team Championship at Squash On Fire. 2021 Squash On Fire Open finalist James Willstrop (world #22) also returns. The former world #1 will be looking to go one step further than last year. Squash On Fire's Karan Malik will also be in action and is counting on vociferous hometown support as he pits himself against the best in the game! Squash On Fire is proud to partner with the Professional Squash Association (PSA) to bring world class men's and women's tournaments to Washington, DC. 2022 marks the first time a PSA World Tour event has ever been played in the DC area. The Squash On Fire Open will also be repeated at the same level in February 2023: February 16 - 20, 2022 February 2023 Dates TBD Squash at this level is incredibly athletic and intense.
