Mass Pike Exit Renumbering Begins Sunday: See New Numbers

WORCESTER, MA — MassDOT will begin replacing Mass Pike exit signs this weekend as part of a renumbering project as the state switches to a mileage-based system. On Sunday, MassDOT crews will begin replacing signs in Boston, working west until the New York border. Then they'll start over heading east into Boston. Each side of the highway will take about two weeks to complete, according to the state. MassDOT will also begin renumbering exits along Route 6 beginning on Monday in Bourne. The work will take place overnight from around 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The Federal Highway Administration has ordered Massachusetts to switch from sequential exit numbers. The westbound numbers will reflect how far you are from the New York border. For example, the new westbound exit 78 in Sturbridge means the New York border is 78 miles away.
