Film screening hosted by South Dakota Newspaper Association in support of South Dakota News Watch, an independent, non-profit news org.
Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Art Cullen and his family fight to unite and inform their rural Iowan farming community through their twice-weekly newspaper, The Storm Lake Times—even as the newspaper hangs on by a thread. Twice a week, they work as civic watchdogs to protect their hometown and the legacy of credible journalism, at large—come hell or pandemic.
"Storm Lake" provides a true-to-form portrait of community newspapering and journalism across America today. The film conveys why journalism is so vitally important to our nation's communities large and small even as so many newspapers like The Storm Lake Times struggle to survive.
Join us for a special evening to celebrate and highlight the importance of community newspapers and journalism.
