Robbery At Montclair Road Bank Leads To Arrest

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham police are investigating a robbery at the AlaTrust credit union branch on Montclair Road. The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. Monday. Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said the suspected robber presented the teller with a note and demanded money and obtained an undisclosed amount of money prior to fleeing the location. The suspect was confronted in the parking lot by a Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy. The deputy was working in an off duty capacity at the credit union. Shots were fired by the deputy during this confrontation, and the suspect was able to flee the scene, Mauldin said. The suspect was then apprehended by the Birmingham Police Department with the assistance of Irondale Police Department in the city limits of Irondale. No injuries to the suspect or law enforcement officers were reported.
