MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — Amid health concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Mountain Brook has canceled this year's 9/11 Remembrance and Patriot's Day Ceremony.
The annual event will take place as scheduled in 2021, officials said.
"Honoring our 9/11 heroes and those men and women serving in our Armed Forces is a cherished tradition," the city said in a statement Monday.
"However, the incredibly difficult decision has been reached to cancel this year's 9/11 Ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic risk to public health. The City of Mountain Brook looks forward to hosting next year's 9/11 Ceremony. We regret any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for understanding these unavoidable circumstances."
The ceremony is annually held in Crestline Village outside the O'Neal Library.
