Tyree Johnson hosts a Monday Night Jam Session at the Blue Room, bringing musicians and music lovers to American Jazz Museum's jazz club Monday Night Jam Sessions inside the Blue Room serve to bring together musicians and music lovers to the American Jazz Museum's jazz club. Whether you want to participate or listen, the evening is to help foster and enrich the Kansas City music community! Get to Know Tyree Johnson & Everyday Strangers From the age of 2 years old, Tyree has developed a passion for people, rhythm, and music. As his mother embraced and nurtured his hidden talents and abilities, he began playing the drum set during their weekly church service. He was determined to get his chance to play a song with the band. Tyree would then look to expand his talent and join his junior high school and community marching teams. While taking part in marching team as a snare drummer, Tyree and his team would originate drum Cadences and would later compete in, not only marching team battles but drum battles nationwide as well. Having success on the marching team scene, Tyree then participated in junior high school step team for 3 consecutive years, Having perfected his craft. participating in step team and the church band, Tyree would then look to pursue a band that needed a steady drummer to play at local Kansas City venues. During his audition with his first band, he was immediately hired and would play with his new band and family for 3 years. While playing local gigs he would return to his former junior high school in 2003 to direct the drum corp. For two consecutive years he lead the drum corp with 1st place at the Kansas City St. Patrick's Day parades. Tyree attended Paseo High School of Fine and Performing Arts in Kansas City, MO. There he was introduced to jazz music and began his own jazz combo called "Groove 101". Tyree has continues to share his musical experiences through his jazz combo on Monday nights at the The Blue Room. The styles that he embraced to study varies from gospel, straight-ahead-jazz, rhythm and blues, afro cuban, salsa, reggae, funk and drum cadences.
