Description

Class is in session! Join us for an interactive sensory experience as we dive into the Origins of Flavor. To create your favorite beers, brewers choose specific ingredients and brewing techniques to evoke certain aromas, flavors, and textures. This workshop will allow you to better understand how ingredients and intentional brewing decisions can bring together harmonious and well-integrated flavors to create your favorite beers. For our first Brew U event of the year, participants will be able to touch, taste, and smell beer at every phase of the brewing process, from the raw materials, like grains, to fully matured and finished beer. We’ll tackle four main Origins of Flavor during this one hour workshop: Raw Materials, Brewhouse, Cellar, and Finished Beer. Raw Materials: We will start where it all begins: with grains, malt, and hops. View, touch, smell, and taste each raw ingredient to better understand how your favorite beer begins. But be careful, hops are super bitter! Brewhouse: Next we will conduct a sensory evaluation with unhopped and hopped wort, and appraise its appearance, aroma, taste, and texture. Cellar: To follow, we will sample and discuss a few beers at different stages of fermentation and learn how young and mature beers differ from each other.Finished Beer: Finally, we will end with a fresh, finished beer. You’ll walk away knowing how clarity and carbonation play an important role in expressing the final flavor profile. When a beer drinker understands the Origins of Flavor, the beer simply becomes so much more delicious. Space is limited. Register today to reserve a seat. Monocacy Brewing Co. Brew Crew members get 10% off their ticket Website: http://www.monocacybrewing.com
