DeKalb County Board Of Education Votes Out Superintendent

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — DeKalb County School District needs a new superintendent after the Board of Education voted to approve a separation agreement with Superintendent Dr. R. Stephen Green, reports 11Alive. The agreement was effective immediately after the vote Monday. "We appreciate Dr. Green for his service to the county and wish him the best in his future endeavors," 11Alive reports Board Chair Dr. Michael A. Erwin said. Last May, Green announced he would not renew his contract with the board, but he was expected to stay on through the end of the 2019-2020 school year to help with the transition. According to 11Alive, the board decided to let him go with a vote and in a second vote, they chose Ramona Tyson as the new interim superintendent. "With Dr. Green's immediate departure, we have the utmost confidence in Ms. Tyson serving as the interim superintendent," Erwin tells the news station. "The separation agreement will have no impact on our current superintendent search, and we are fully committed to an open and transparent process, as evidenced by our current online survey and last week's community forums." Tyson has served the district for 32 years, in the capacity of a teacher, administrator, deputy chief superintendent, interim superintendent, chief of staff to three superintendents, and chief administrator to the board of education. She has announced her retirement for June 30, 2020. According to the district, the nationwide search is being conducted by BWP & Associates. The application deadline is Dec. 14.
