BARRE, MA — A 71-year-old Barre man has been indicted in multiple charges following the September slaying of a 65-year-old man, who relatives say was the accused killer's landlord, employer and childhood friend. Robert Leger was indicted Friday on murder and gun law charges. Prosecutors say Leger shot Michael Hannon, 65, multiple times on Sept. 4 outside his Town Farm Road property. Hannon died at the scene. According to reports, Leger and Hannon knew each other since their teen years in Fitchburg. Leger lived in a small house on Hannon's property, Hannon's ex-wife told the Boston Globe in September. Leger also worked at Hannon's environmental firm, Design By Nature. Prosecutors have not named a motive. According to MassLive, Leger called police shortly after the shooting, and then walked to a neighbor's house and handed her an envelope with money inside. Police arrived to find Leger sitting in a Toyota Prius parked on the property. Leger is being held without bail ahead of further court proceedings.
