Press release from Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce: 2022-02-03 Restoring Pain System Homeostasis Level I: The DermoNeuroModulating Method Persistent pain is one of the most challenging conditions faced by patients and therapists in clinical practice. Recent advances in pain science research have reshaped our understanding of persistent pain and provided us with better options to treat our patients more effectively. Under normal conditions, the health of the pain system, as with all body systems, is maintained through homeostasis, a self-correcting adaptive mechanism. Current pain science informs us that when patients have persistent pain, the pain system neuromatrix generates and maintains pain as an output through CNS and PNS maladaptive mechanisms. In this course you will learn how to create a sensory-motor feedforward loop leading to homeostatic pain resolution. Join us for a two-day lab intensive workshop on DermoNeuroModulating (DNM), a novel interactive approach to manual therapy developed by Diane Jacobs, PT. This course provides participants with a comprehensive perspective and an extensive array of proven hands-on, effective examination and treatment techniques. These techniques provide patients with the inputs necessary to allow their nervous systems to self-correct, resulting in pain resolution. DNM uses creative, gentle, specific manual methods targeting the PNS through the skin organ to facilitate a return to pain system homeostasis. Dr. Stephanie Mikoliczak, PT, DPT has been using DNM successfully for over a decade and has taught numerous DNM continuing education courses. Mr. Gil Haight, PT and Dr. Mark Erickson, PT, DScPT, OCS assist Stephanie as co-instructors. Our knowledgeable team of instructors brings over 95 years of clinical experience to the course and all three instructors have presented at several state and national conferences. Enrollment is limited to provide participants with instructor access for valuable 1:1 feedback and instruction. Our primary goal is your immediate and successful clinical application of course content. Learning Objectives: • Understand pain neuroscience and the effect of manual therapy of peripheral nerves on pain. • Understand the DNM approach in affecting pain through the nervous system. • Develop better palpation skills to assess peripheral nerves and their surrounding tissues. • Develop better manual therapy skills as well as therapeutic alliance skills in reducing threat and calming the nervous system. • Develop a deeper appreciation of the role of manual therapy in the context of the biopsychosocial approach to treating pain. Testimonials Course Attendees "This course is amazing: It is so valuable…It'll be changing my practice." "Loved the layout alternating lecture and hands on." "This course was one of the best I've attended in 15 years of practice (and I attend 2-3 courses/year). Concise teaching method was appreciated, demonstrations and re-demonstrations ensured that we know what to do. I am amazed at how gentle yet effective the techniques are." Patients "My doctor said he has rarely seen this happen. I have less 'trigger points,' than I had at my last assessment, and I'm functioning better than I have in years…. And they (the tender areas) were still gone at my next assessment months later! I am even exercising regularly, and cooking more regularly, and it feels so wonderful to be doing this for myself and my spouse again." patient after several months of therapy including DermoNeuroModulating manual care. "I haven't had a headache since my evaluation…whatever you did (DermoNeuroModulating)…whatever that was….I'm amazed! I have not felt this good in years….or slept this good!"
