'Hero' Warden Accused Of Stalking, Brutally Beating Wife: Report

YONKERS, NY — A high-ranking New York City corrections official is himself the subject of a felony criminal complaint in Westchester County after savagely attacking his estranged wife, according to the New York Post. Shon Brown, an assistant deputy warden at the Manhattan Detention Complex, better known as "The Tombs," is accused of slashing the tires on his wife's car and following her home on New Year's Eve, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the newspaper. At the wife's apartment building on Midland Avenue in Yonkers, Brown started screaming and reportedly threw his wife into a glass wall, according to the complaint. He then choked her until she passed out and punched her in the face while she was on the on the ground, according to the report. The victim's 15-year-old son arrived at the scene of the violent attack and tried to help his mom, the complaint says. Brown is accused of then threatening to kill them both. Yonkers Police issued a warrant for Brown's arrest on Jan. 19 shortly after the incident was reported, according to the New York Post's Gabrielle Fonrouge and Craig McCarthy. Brown turned himself in on Jan. 27, police officials told the newspaper. He is charged with assault, strangulation, stalking, endangering the welfare of a child and menacing, according to court documents obtained by the Post. In 2013, Brown was honored as a "hero" by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for his role in helping to rescue a pregnant woman and her 17-month-old baby after their car overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike on Father's Day 2013.
