Press release from the Junior League of Worcester:
Nov. 2, 2020
The Junior League of Worcester (JLW) teamed with Pernet Family Health Service to raise awareness about period poverty in the Worcester community. More than $2,000 will be spent on sanitary products over the course of one's lifetime and together the JLW and Pernet are raising funds to offset this cost for those who need help.
"The reality is that there are people who have to decide between food or sanitary products, and that is disheartening," stated JLW member Sarah Kane. "No one should have to miss school or work over a period. Period. Our goal is to shine light on this invisible problem that no one wants to talk about, and assist those who suffer on a monthly basis," she continued.
From now until November 10th, the team is asking for donations of period products, including pads, tampons, cleansing cloths and disposable bags. Donations can be delivered to Pernet Family Health Service 237 Millbury Street, Worcester, or via an Amazon Wishlist http://ow.ly/OATj50BKoPj.
"To date, more than 4,500 items have been collected for Pernet, which distributes them to people with periods in the Worcester area. With help from the community, we hope to double that number over the next few weeks," said JLW member Lauren Bailey-Jones.
