NEWTON, MA — A senior housing development has been proposed for Craft Street in Newton that would consist of 209 rental units and offer independent living, assisted living, and memory care services, reported The Boston Globe. The nearly 225,000 square-foot development, proposed by Mark Development and California-based Senior Resource Group, would be located on a three-acre property near Whole Foods and Marty's Fine Wines on Washington Street. According to the proposal, the development would include 129 age-restricted independent living units, 52 assisted living units, 28 memory care units, an underground garage with about 140 parking spaces, and indoor and outdoor spaces. Developers said 11 of the independent living units would be affordable housing. The project hasn't been filed with the city yet, but it would require City Councilors to approve a zoning change and special permit. If approved, construction could begin as early as 2023 and be completed in 2025. The site, which currently includes a bus parking lot and a few small commercial buildings, would include a seven-story building for independent housing and a five-story building for assisted housing. The buildings would be connected and face a courtyard and driveway. To view the slides from a recent presentation on the proposed project, click here.
