GREENFIELD, WI — A Greenfield High School student raised concerns after he says the school's athletic director used a racist term toward him multiple times, and the school is investigating, according to a TMJ4 News report. "I didn't like it at all, I thought it was beyond racist," Greenfield student Omar Surveyor, a 17-year-old member of the school's basketball team, told TMJ4 News."I told him multiple times don't call me that word I don't like it." The word "boy" marked Surveyor's description of the comments to reporters. The Greenfield High School boys basketball team came together in protest with the practice shirts they were wearing at Tuesday's game, WISN 12 and TMJ4 reported. "My name is not boy," the shirts read, according to reports. The word historically has been used disparagingly toward Black men. Beverly Juarez, Surveyor's mother, pointed out to WISN 12 the history of racism the word can bring. "Back in slave times, that's what the white slave owners called, they called them boy," Juarez told WISN 12. "You could just say his name." A private listening session for the boy's basketball team and their parents has been scheduled for Friday, Principal Todd Willems told Patch. On Wednesday, the GHS Boys Basketball Coach resigned, Willems said. Just last week, the word's use led to the ejection of a 76ers fan, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The man, who disputed that he used the word in a derogatory manner, was kicked out of the game after using the word, the report said citing an investigation after the event.
