WESTPORT, CT — Firefighters freed a driver from a damaged vehicle after a three-car crash Thursday morning on Post Road West in the area of Marion Road.
In a news release, Assistant Fire Chief Brett Kirby said firefighters arrived in the area around 7 a.m. and found two of the vehicles were significantly damaged.
Crews quickly deployed a protective hose line and assessed the occupants of each vehicle. The driver of one vehicle required extrication due to the amount of damage to the car's passenger compartment, Kirby said.
Firefighters quickly freed the driver using hydraulic tools and assisted Westport Emergency Medical Services in getting the driver in an ambulance, Kirby said.
Westport police provided support, including traffic control, during the incident and Westport EMS brought two patients to Norwalk Hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time, Kirby said.
Post Road West was shut down for an extended period of time following the accident but reopened just before 8 a.m., Kirby said.
"As a reminder, please make sure you are securely buckled up on every journey," Kirby said in a news release. "Seatbelts save lives."
