FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham Public Schools students will get a long weekend.
The school district canceled school on Friday ahead of a winter storm that could drop several inches of snow and create icy conditions throughout the day.
"Due to the forecast of freezing rain and sleet tomorrow during the am/pm commutes and possible impact to sidewalks, school is canceled tomorrow," the district said Thursday evening.
A wintry mix was expected to begin during the overnight hours, according to the National Weather Service. Framingham will be under a winter weather advisory until about 7 p.m. on Friday with an inch or more of snow and a 1/4-inch of ice possible.
"Rain to change to a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet Friday affecting both commutes," the weather service said in a bulletin. "Falling temps will rapidly freeze water/slush. Road pre-treatment is made more difficult in rainy weather."
