Press release from the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce: January 25, 2022 NORWALK, CONN. – Support has been provided to The Center for Contemporary Printmaking (CCP) from CT Humanities (CTH), with funding provided by the Connecticut State Department of Economic and Community Development/Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA) from the Connecticut State Legislature. Connecticut Humanities recently awarded a $31,200 CT Cultural Fund Operating Support Grant (CTCFOSG) to the Center for Contemporary Printmaking for the Fiscal Year 2022. Connecticut Humanities (CTH) is an independent, non-profit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities which connects people to the humanities through grants, partnerships, and collaborative programs. This allocation of funds will support CCP's mission to support, preserve, and advance the art of original prints, and to bring this knowledge to the broader community of Norwalk, CT. "Over the past 14 years, I have witnessed the Center's (CCP) ongoing commitment to cultivating and sustaining long-term involvement and understanding of the arts in the city of Norwalk and for broader populations across Fairfield County and our wider region." Says David Westmoreland, Chairman of the City of Norwalk's Historical Commission. "The Center for Contemporary Printmaking presents the surrounding community with the only source of printmaking knowledge, equipment, craftsmanship and experience at a professional artistic level." CCP brings the art of printmaking to the Norwalk community through free exhibitions open to the public year round, direct outreach to schools and community groups teaching printmaking processes to youth and adults, and CCP's Grace Ross Shanley Memorial Scholarship, an after school program modeled after traditional apprenticeship programs for high school level students. The Center is expanding its community outreach this year for a new spring program called Press out Hate, which involves engaging other Norwalk based humanitarian programs in a series of hands-on art making opportunities encouraging personal expression and community building. The CT Humanities Grant funds will support CCP's operational and studio costs and while assisting with underwriting costs to develop and implement community programs. CCP is one of 624 cultural, humanities, and arts organizations across Connecticut receiving funding from CT Humanities totalling $16 million in CT Cultural Fund Operating Support Grants (CTCFOSG). The CTCFOSG are part of $30.7M of support allocated to CTH over the next two years by the CT General Assembly and approved by Governor Ned Lamont. The CTCFOSG will assist organizations as they recover from the pandemic and maintain and grow their ability to serve their community and the public.
