MANCHESTER, CT — A teen was seriously hurt after being struck by a vehicle in Manchester late Wednesday afternoon, police said. The crash took place at 5:37 p.m. on New State Road in the area of Hilliard Street, police said. Officers and firefighters arrived at the scene and found a 15-year old girl in the road suffering from what they described as "significant life-threatening injuries," according to an incident report. Emergency medical care was given to her on-scene and she was transported to Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford by ambulance, police said. The vehicle that struck the girl had been traveling north on New State Road and was located a short distance from the initial scene, an incident report indicates. The driver was identified as an 81-year-old man from Manchester, according to the report. He was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation, police said. The crash remained under investigation Thursday by the Manchester Police Department Traffic Unit and the Metro Traffic Services Crash Reconstruction Team. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information should contact Officer Kevin Jackson at 860-533-8651, police said. Two high schools are close by — Cheney Tech and East Catholic. Police would not say if the girl was a student at either. Her name and the driver's name are being withheld by police because of the active nature of the investigation.
