Press release from the City of Brookhaven:
When the City of Brookhaven moved to sidestep the coronavirus pandemic and hold a two-tiered Light Up Brookhaven virtual experience, residents and businesses met the challenge.
The first tier was the annual Light Up Brookhaven Christmas tree and menorah lighting on Dec. 2, presented virtually to the public on Facebook Live. The second tier was launching a citywide holiday yard decorating contest that would share "making the season bright" with all who took the time to drive around neighborhoods throughout the City.
The winning yards have been announced and City leaders extend a hearty "thank you" to all who participated in the contest. Those addresses taking residential honors were: First Place: 2505 Appalachee Drive NE, Second Place: 1563 Trentwood Place NE and Third Place: 2362 Logan Circle NE. Honorable Mention was awarded to: 1342 West Nancy Creek Drive. Taking top honors in the commercial division was Explore Brookhaven.
"I want to express my sincere thanks to all who participated in this event," said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst. "After this challenging year, it is still evident that the #BrookhavenStrong spirit that has carried us forward throughout 2020 is providing holiday cheer for all residents."
Explore Brookhaven created a driving map of all entries to serve as a guide to those wanting to tour the yards and also publicized in surrounding towns to bring others to Brookhaven for a fun, free and socially distanced viewing of all the lights.
